Hello Dolly Bars

Downloadable PDF

Hello Dolly Bars, also known as Magic Bars or 7-Layer Bars, get their name from the musical "Hello, Dolly!". As a famously huge musical theater queen, this makes my heart sing. The musical and the bar were both popular in the 1950s, and the fact that they were conflated makes total sense. Much like our girl Dolly, this bar is layered, dramatic, and an absolute sensation. Curtains up!

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

½ stick butter, melted

1½ cups crushed graham crackers

1½ cup semisweet chocolate chips*

1 cup shredded coconut

1 cup chopped walnuts

1 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk

*Some recipes also add butterscotch chips, which will work well in this recipe. I do not like butterscotch, so I do not. Just divide the amount chips in this recipe but whatever ratio of chocolate to butterscotch makes you happy.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Preheat your oven to 350°.

Butter a quarter sheet pan or a 9x13 pan, then line it with parchment. The butter helps the parchment adhere to the pan and is an extra step I like to take. You can skip it, or join me in being entirely.

Mix melted butter and crushed graham crackers together. Spread mixture around the bottom of pan evenly. Spread chocolate chips, nuts and coconut evenly across the pan, in that order. Pour the can of condensed milk evenly on top.

Bake 350° 20-25 minutes until golden brown on top.

Let cool, remove parchment, and slice into bars! Enjoy!
